Tuck wins key to city

The Island Now

Just days after winning the Super Bowl, Giants defensive captain Justin Tuck visited Umberto’s pizzeria in New Hyde Park where he was presented with the key to the county by Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano.

Umberto’s played a decisive role in the Giants championship season by delivering 15 pizzas to the team’s practice facility each Friday during the season. It even sent pizzas to Indianapolis during Super Bowl week.

Tuck came to Long Island to say thank you to Umberto’s for their support and loyalty. In return the pizzeria’s owner Umberto Corteo presented Tuck with a $10,000 check to Tuck’s charity, “Tuck’s Rush for Literacy.”

For those who let work or school get in the way of attending the Giant’s ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes, this provided Long Islanders an opportunity to connect in a unique way with a Super Bowl hero.

Tuck, who comes from a small town in Alabama, admitted that he wasn’t sure what the key really means. But he added, “It’s a great story I can tell my kids. I consider myself to be a New Yorker now, so when they’re driving through this area, I can always say I have a key to this county.”

We think it means that Tuck and his teammates have won the key to Nassau County hearts for as long the NFL and its Super Bowl exist.
