Unnecessary Post Offices a symbol

The Island Now

Great Neck claims to have the best schools. East Hampton says they have the best beaches. How about those fabulous Glen Cove restaurants?

But, my town has something that all of you don’t have. Ready?

We have two, full-service, Post Offices within walking distance of each other. One on Willis Avenue and the other on Mineola Avenue.

How great is that?  Port Washington must be so jealous.

Remember the good old days? We never needed those name-tags to remind us of the clerk’s first names. Do you remember how difficult it was to find a parking spot there on April 15?  Did you forget about those long lines out the door during the holidays? How about Valentine’s day?

Now there are no lines at all! Parking is really easy. How come? Simple: There is never anyone in there anymore.

My neighborhood has more Post Offices than Starbucks!

Three months ago I went there to pick up our mail after a vacation. It was empty. I parked right in front.

The reason is obvious. Everyone uses e-mail, texts and the Internet instead of those stamped envelopes. Shopping, paying  bills, So simple now, all done from our homes.

The Post Office is broke. They couldn’t compete, they made to many extravagant labor promises and they totally ignored the computer-revolution.

A better description is that “we” are broke, since the American taxpayer actually “owns” the Post Office. “Our” Post Office is losing $25 million dollars a day!.

What brilliant remedies did our brilliant Postmaster General, Patrick Donahue come up with to save our company?

Our Bureaucrat-in-Chief jumped into action and informed us of his four exciting and innovative solutions:

1- First if all, he canceled the sponsorship of Lance Armstrong’s U.S. Post Office cycling team and is suing him.

How many years will this  case  actually take?  Between 1996-2004, they (we) paid this seven-time Tour de France cycling champion and his team, $42.4 million taxpayer dollars.

Mr. Donahue finally figured out that he is a liar, a fraud and a national disgrace!! What took him so long?

Oh I know, It started under President Bush!

2- In a few months, there will be no more Saturday mail delivery.

3- How much of Post Office’s current budget goes to paying their employees’ benefits? Twenty percent of their total yearly budget .

3- What do you think our government-run Post Office has decided to do in order to reestablish contact with the younger generation? They are going into the clothing business.
