VGN cuts building fees for storm fixes

The Village of Great Neck has cut building fees for residents repairing their homes from storm damage.

Residents with minor storm damage will have all fees except for a filing fee waived and can file a temporary building permit application to expedite repairs, according to a village press release.

Residents who wish to repair more severe damage or alter rather than simply reconstruct their homes will pay half the standard building fee.

“It’s a horrendous situation especially when it’s your own home, so we’re trying to make the process easier and speedier for some people,” said Village of Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman.

Applications for storm damage repair will receive high priority treatment, according to the press release.

“Our goal is first to assist our residents and businesses after the horrendous storms and then to restore our beautiful and historic village as quickly as possible,” Kreitzman said in the release. “The Village of Great Neck is our home, and we will continue to do everything to ensure that our community will thrive going forward.”

For residents with minor damage, the temporary building permit allows short term repairs – those that will be completed within 60 days – to move forward with limited review. Applicants must submit photographic documentation of storm damage prior to receiving a permit.
