Flower Hill trustees on Monday appointed Great Neck lawyer Dennis Reisman to replace Justice Bruce Byrne, who retired after 40 years with the village.

“We can’t thank him enough for his years of service to this village,” Village of Flower Hill Mayor Elaine Phillips said of Byrne.

Reisman, who was nominated by Phillips,  has served as acting justice for the past five years, and will continue as the standing justice until the village elections on March 15, 2016.

The position is unpaid.

Reisman, a Village of Flower Hill resident is currently running unopposed, Philips said.

His practice areas at the Law Offices of Dennis Marc Reisman in Great Neck are listed as personal Injury, business law and family law on Martindale.com.

According to the legal website, Reisman attended Queens College undergraduate and Ohio Northern University law school.

Bryne served as village justice for 32 years on the bench after eights years as a village trustee, village officials said.

Village treasurer Kathy Wade said he resigned after deciding to move out of the village.

“He resigned reluctantly,” Phillips said, “but I think we will see a lot of him.”

Village administrator Ronnie Shatzkamer added that Bryne is “the nicest man ever.”

The board also began discussion on a new local law to limit the building sizes on plots of land over an acre. No action was taken by trustees, and the Architectural Review Board was asked to consider the idea and report back to trustees in two months.

Phillips said the law is to regulate building size.

She said the village is questioning whether or not the village wants to accept 10,000 square foot homes.
