Village of Great Neck eyes land next to new Village Hall

Village of Great Neck trustees approved a resolution Tuesday giving them the authority to bond the purchase of  land adjacent to the proposed site of the new Village Hall at 265 East Shore Road.

The village approved a resolution in January authorizing them to bond the cost of the new Village Hall if they choose to do so. The village has the choice to bond the cost, but it is not obligated to.

Village Mayor Ralph Kreitzman said at the board’s regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday that if the village wants to bond the new Village Hall, the bond can include the adjacent parcel of land.

The village voted on this Tuesday at the recommendation of the village counsel, Kreitzman said.

Village clerk and treasurer Joe Gil said in January the next step for the architects, H2M architects + engineers, is to do programming work, including interviewing village staff members on what they want in the new Village Hall.

As of January, the process was still in the information-gathering stage.

Village trustees selected H2M to do the preliminary architectural and engineering work for the proposed new Village Hall and Department of Public Works facility earlier in January. The new hall and public works facility will be located at 265 East Shore Road.

The work H2M was hired to do includes preliminary design and engineering, but not the construction. The price for the preliminary work is $508,000. Trustees have said it is still too early to determine the final cost of the actual facility.
