Village of Munsey Park trustees approved a $1,711,064 million budget for the 2016-17 year that represents a $61,595 spending decrease — or 3.5 percent — from the 2015-16 budget.

The budget calls for a 2 percent increase in the tax levy to $1,254,989 — a $24,608 increase from last year.

“We are expecting a revenue decline in the next fiscal year and we feel like we need to build up the funds,” Trustee Patrick DeMento said.

DeMento said because the village is anticipating decline in revenue the trustees cut costs.

The village expects a 20 percent decline of $123,635 from other revenue sources aside from property taxes.

The budget calls for a $1,250 decrease in zoning fees down to $6,000, a $20,000 decrease in building permits and a $6,225 decrease in miscellaneous permits.

“We try to budget conservatively and hopefully there’s actually a lot more revenue generated from fees, especially building permits,” DeMento said.

Trustees are anticipating an $81,500 decrease in a state highway grant.

The budget calls for a $2,000 decrease in prosecutor fees to $8,000, a $41,698 decrease in other legal fees to $20,000 and a $6,000 decrease in office equipment.

The budget calls for an street crew overtime to $20,000 from last year’s $7,842 and a $9,824 decrease in retirement spending.
