The Village of Thomaston Board of Trustees approved a 2016-17 budget Monday that calls for $2,021,551 in spending — up $3,251 from last year or less than 1 percent.
The budget, which runs from March 1, 2016 to Feb. 28, 2017, also calls for the village to collect $1,524,326 in property taxes, up $2,425 from the previous year’s budget.
The biggest increase in the budget is $115,000 for street maintenance for a street repair contract.
“The last few years we have been paving portions of the village,” Village Administrator Denise Knowland said. “So the next scheduled roads are going to be paved this year and that’s the estimate on it.”
She said the village would be repaving streets in the village west of South Middle Neck Road and Susquehanna Avenue.
This year, state Sen. Jack Martins (R-Mineola) secured a $110,000 grant for the village, which Knowland said would be used for the road paving project.
Knowland said the increase in taxes was for a contract the village has with the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company, which increased $2,425 this year.
She also said the village had a $18,977 surplus from the 2015-16 budget, which will be used to balance the proposed 2016-17 budget.
