Great Neck Water Pollution Control District Commissioner Steve Reiter announced Friday he will run for re-election in the district’s upcoming December election.

Reiter’s commissioner seat is the only position up for election.

“Since I was elected in 2012, I have worked tirelessly to ensure district residents receive the highest quality service at the lowest possible cost,” Reiter said. “As a result, district residents enjoy the benefits of a state-of-the-art eco-friendly facility which has saved taxpayers more than $108,000 in energy costs in the first six months of 2015.”

Candidates interested in running for election were required to file their name and submit a petition signed by 25 registered voters with the district by today’s 4 p.m. deadline.

A secretary from the district’s headquarters at 236 East Shore Road said that no other people have come forward for the position besides Reiter.

Reiter, who works for marketing communications firm SMP Creative Media LLC, has served as one of the district’s three commissioners that secured over $2 million in grants for various plant upgrades and oversaw the installation of a new micro-turbine cogeneration facility, which helped prevent a tax levy increase in 2016.

“I am proud of the great accomplishments the district has made,” Reiter said. “We are the highest performing, most environmentally friendly sewer service in Nassau County because of the dedication of our team in constantly supporting and advocating on behalf of our residents.”

The election is scheduled for Dec. 8 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Voters can cast their ballots at the Great Neck Social Center at 80 Grace Ave. or the E.M. Baker School at 69 Baker Hill Ave.

The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District is located at 236 East Shore Road and serves the villages of Great Neck, Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Thomaston and Saddle Rock as well as parts of Manhasset.
