The Island Now

The Wayans Brothers Live, starring Damon, Keenen, Marlon and Shawn, will be performing at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury on Saturday, July 19, at 8 p.m.

Damon, Keenen, Marlon and Shawn Wayans are not only known for their appearances in movies, standup comedy and television shows, but also for their work as writers, directors and producers.

Keenen Ivory Wayans first achieved national prominence with a landmark 1990s black-oriented comedy satire on Fox TV called “In Living Color.”

The show brought to prominence Damon (who was also a creator and writer on the show), Shawn, Marlon and their sister Kim.

The first feature film Keenen directed, “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka” (1988) starred brothers Damon and Shawn. Shawn co-wrote and starred in the hit comedy “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood” (1996) with brother Marlon. The hit film, Scary Movie (2000) was co-written by Shawn and Marlon, directed by Keenen and is one of the most successful feature films ever directed by an African-American. Keenen, Shawn and Marlon co-wrote the film “White Chicks” (2004) which Shawn and Marlon also starred in.

The family also created “Thugaboo” and the subsequent “Boo Crew” animated specials for Nickelodeon, which began premiering in August 2006.  The Wayans also wrote, directed and voiced the series, which took a humorous look at the trials and tribulations of nine inner city kids.

Damon is also well-known for his role on “My Wife and Kids” (2001-2005), a show he co-created, produced and wrote. Marlon is hosting the new show Funniest Wins (TBS) which premiered this month.  Keenen is a celebrity judge on this season’s “Last Comic Standing” (NBC), an Emmy Award-nominated series.  All four brothers are currently on the road as part of the Wayans Brothers Live Tour.
