Weimer to rock Great Neck Plaza

The Island Now

The Village of Great Neck Plaza announced a performance by saxophone player Paul ‘Shilts’ Weimar on Tuesday, July 2 at 8:00 p.m., at Firefighters’ Park.

Mayor Jean Celender expressed her excitement when she said, “We are very fortunate to have Shilts appearing again for a rare East Coast performance. Shilts has performed all over the world, drawing rave reviews for his performances and latest album, “All Grown Up.” This is a summer music extravaganza in the Plaza not to be missed.”

Paul ‘Shilts’ Weimar, hailing from London, England, has been performing professionally since the age of 16, backing up some of music’s biggest acts, such as The Temptations, Four Tops, and the Drifters. For over a decade, Weimar was the front man of the British urban jazz funk group, Down to the Bone. With DTTB, Weimar was heavily featured as he composed and played saxophone on a majority of the songs on the group’s seven studio albums.

In the past five years Weimar has focused on his solo career and produced five albums. He is currently on tour with his musician friends promoting his most recent solo album, “All Grown Up,” released last year. His upbeat, funky urban jazz sound has made him a leading session musician for recording artists such as David Bowie, Jimmy Paige and Bill Wyman to name a few.

In the case of inclement weather, the concert performance will be moved to the Great Neck Senior Center (80 Grace Avenue). Check with village staff at the Village Hall on the day of the concert, or call (516) 482 – 4500 after 5 p.m. There will be a recorded message if the day’s scheduled concert has been moved.
