The Williston Park Patriots Red 10u Baseball team became the 2012 Williston Park Mayor’s Trophy Champions after defeating the Massapequa Coast 5-3.

Justin Bestler was the winning pitcher, throwing 5 1/3 innings and William McCreery came in to get the save getting the last two outs of the game.

Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar  was in attendance and started off the game by throwing out the first pitch and giving the Patriots some words of encouragement. For those who don’t know, Mayor Ehbar coached the 1992 Mayor’s Trophy Champion Williston Park team.

Williston Park finished with a record of 4-0 in the tournament.  In the opening game they had a walk off 1-0 win over a tough Floral Park team. Round two of the tournament saw Sean Hembach pitch a gem of a game defeating Manhasset 3-1 on Wednesday Aug.1.

In Round 3 on Tuesday Aug. 7 it was William McCreery who shut down the Merillon Sharks as the offense exploded in a 12-2 victory.

The games featured a home run by Justin Bestler and multiple hit games by Phil Arnold, William McCreery, Cary Novick, and Chris Lomando.  The Patriots also received timely hits and outstanding play from Jerry Flood, Jonathan Salamone, Bryan Carlucci, Andrew Sarnel, Jake David, Connor McCreery, Matthew O’Connell and Corry Meyn.

Anthony Scibelli and Sean Hembach made a couple of outstanding plays in the outfield changing the momentum of the championship game.

We would like to thank Kevin Kelly for organizing the tournament and Dennis Gannon for making these games so memorable for the children with his announcing. He goes above and beyond to make for a wonderful time enjoyed by all.

Congratulations also go out to Sean Hembach whose raffle ticket was the winner of a baseball autographed by Mariano Rivera.  The proceeds of the raffle went towards benefitting the Williston Park Little League.

Coaches Michael Ciccone, Lisa Stager, Rich Bestler, Matt O’Connell, and Ralph Salamone thanked the parents for the opportunity to coach this team and for the support they have provided.  The coaches said they are extremely proud of this special team and all that they have accomplished this year.
