Munsey Park safe, but on alert: Auriemma

Crime may be down in Munsey Park, but the village’s guard is not.

Munsey Park Trustee Susan Auriemma said in her monthly crime report March 14 that even though the village had one reported burglary since the board of trustees last met Feb. 13, they were kept aware of a number of burglaries in the surrounding communities.

“There were several in the Port Washington-Manhasset area and the commanding officer did give us a head’s up on what many of the specifics were,” she said. “They were middle of the afternoon-early evening, and he just advised that residents to make sure doors are locked and that their alarms are used and to call 9-1-1 if need be.”

Auriemma said she relayed this information to residents.

“I would say that Munsey Park has been pretty manageable, with the burglary being the one exception,” Village of Munsey Park Mayor Harry Nicolaides said.

Nicolaides said he was surprised that no traffic accidents had been reported in the last month considering the usual high volume of accidents at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Port Washington Boulevard.

Village Clerk Barbara Miller said in the justice report that tickets were down, but the police wrote a large amount of tickets last May that balanced out the overall total.

Miller read the report on behalf of Trustee Sheila Brennan, who was not in attendance.
