I’m perplexed as to why Bing Tang’s article was reprinted, again this past week, in the Williston Times.
In my opinion, it does not deserve repeating. There is, certainly, a lack of clarity in some of what was written. His choice of words are not those of an enlightened Catholic and generalizations abound.
For example, he says, and I quote, “Like Protestants, pastors should get married.” And again, “Celibacy does not make any one holier. It is only recommended for those who cannot live a settled down life just like Saint Paul.”
Hell—-o!
I’m wondering how much theology “substantiates” his premises. I believe Roseanne Spinner has expressed the thoughts of many of us, in her article, “Sexual abuse not a Catholic problem”, Friday, April 19, 20013, Williston Times.
It is about time the secular presses relinquish their vendetta on the Catholic Church once and for all. They’ve said enough and, for the most part, they’ve said it poorly.
Roseanne says it perfectly when she states, “They have blamed the disease of pedophilia on the Catholic Church, which is as irresponsible as blaming adultery on the institute of marriage.”
The statistics she provides speak volumes. If the Catholic Church errs it’s because we, as Catholics, can be apathetic in the face of all the unjust rebukes. Sometimes, it doesn’t pay to “turn the other cheek”, especially in the face of repeated slander.
