I agree with Mr. Penner about the importance of diversity in the media. 

Unfortunately it is under control of a few corporate giants. Local newspapers provide greater access to differing opinions.

The problem with expressing opinions is the lack of any factual responsibility, or truth. This often results in outrageous and damaging ideas.

Most students pursue an education that serves the community and the nation. A well-informed population benefits everyone. 

The G.I Bill provided 16 million World War II veterans with free education and economic assistance. Was it worth it? 

Doctors, dentists, engineers, teachers, artists, musicians and actors became the backbone of an emerging middle class that lifted our nation into world leadership.

Our decline began when corporate greed with its lobbyists hijacked our government! The collapse of our economy was a direct result.

Health care that is affordable is good for the entire country. A sick and hungry child or adult cannot achieve the goal of being a productive human being.

I have benefitted from government health care since 1947. Am I a moocher? 

The real moochers and freeloaders are big oil, sugar, military and other corporations that receive billions in subsidies. 

The Constitution states that, “Only Congress can declare war.” Our government should explore all means of ending the Syrian conflict. Our hands are not clean. 

We used Agent Orange in Vietnam. President Reagan personally approved the sale of Sarin gas to Saddam Hussein to be used against Iran.

Surveillance and stop-and-frisk are violations of the fourth and 14th amendments and are dangerous to all when they are catalogued and kept in secrecy.
