Reader’s Write: Dems offer African-Americans false promises

The Island Now

In a 1994 essay, Mr. Edwin J. Feulner Jr., the then president of The Heritage Foundation, wrote, “Despite the common sense nature of our ideas, and their clear popularity with grassroots America, conservatives have an image problem.” And we still do.

Feulner continued, “By instinct or choice, most Americans are conservative, but they don’t identify with the conservative movement. Why is this? While they don’t identify with big government liberalism, and recognize its failures, many Americans are convinced that liberals care, and conservatives don’t. Though the media have certainly helped nurture this image, we can’t blame the left for its good fortune; instead, we need to do a better job of focusing on the problems and concerns of ordinary Americans and letting them know we’re on their side.”

I believe the vast majority of African-Americans are conservative, but since FDR they have overwhelmingly voted for the Democrats. Why? Democrats for decades have been promising the African-American community paradise and have delivered Detroit, Camden and the south side of Chicago.

The Democrats have promised paradise and delivered hell on earth to the African-American community.

Speaking of Detroit, a new book entitled “Detroit” has recently been written by a native journalist who lives in Detroit. One learns that this city is more than 80 percent black and, “a city with more than 11,000 unsolved homicides dating back to 1960.” This is insane. Where is the city, state and federal government in stopping this carnage?

In describing a former black mayor (in the New York Times book review – Feb. 24, 2013) it was stated, “A black city in which the most prominent leader plundered, pillaged and lied, all the while presenting himself as a guardian angel against the White Devil.”

Nice for race relations. As bad as this is, how is it possible that all levels of government are apparently doing nothing about this murderous situation in an American city?

Chicago is not any better. What did this genius new mayor recently say about the young children being killed in the crossfire by the drug dealers? He said the gangsters should “take your fight into the alleys.” Terrific. He has no problem with these young black men killing each other in the streets of Chicago. I believe he is a liberal Democrat.

Every African-American should view the TV series “The Wire” that portrays the negative impact the drug trade has had on the young in Baltimore. And what have the Republicans done to help the African-American community? Mostly nada…zilch…zero.

This is where conservatives have an opportunity to overcome the lies of the Democrats and the inaction of the many RINO Republicans who today are nothing more than Liberal-Democrats light.

We have to save America by convincing 15 to 20 percent of African-Americans that a better future for their community and the rest of America is in conservatism and not in the false promises of the liberals of the past. But we must do it with deeds not empty promises. I want to give you just one example of what I mean.

As you know, many of our elite universities in the U.S. have endowments that are in the billions of dollars. So, a few years back, when I learned that Wilberforce University in Ohio was in need of financial support, I thought if one million Americans each sent them $25 it would help immensely.

I contacted every member in the Congressional Black Caucus asking for their help (Wilberforce is the first predominately African-American private university in the nation).

A letter I received from Wilberforce stated, “I checked my donations and no donations have been received from the Black Caucus Members.” Incidentally, from a New York Times story on Feb. 21 2013, “Stanford last year became the first university to raise more than $1 billion in a single year, according to the Council for Aid to Education’s annual college fundraising survey.”

Now, we conservatives have a chance to act where the Congressional Black Caucus did not. I have just received a notice from Wilberforce’s Office of Development in which they are in the process of raising funds “to upgrade dormitory buildings built more than 40 years ago… this phase of the project is expected to cost $1.5 to $2 million.”

If they could raise the $25 million I originally desired years ago it should help (Note: I have no affiliation to Wilberforce).

We conservatives need to convince many in the African-Community and, of course, the Latino community that we are for the development of each American to the best of their individual talents. We are not for the continuation of the Democrats’ controlling and regulating nanny state. They have destroyed the entrepreneurial spirit of many Americans with the controlling ideology that these leftists have with “we know what is best for you attitude.” Witness Obamacare.

The liberals control the educational system in America from the elementary level, through high school and into college. And what has been the result?

One does not get a trend from one data point, but in an article in The New York Times on Feb. 8, 2013 “A Long Struggle for Equality in Schools,” “…after four decades in court and nearly $1 billion in public spending little has changed for the black children whose right to a good education he had labored to defend.”

“He” is Mr. Rubin Salter Jr., a lawyer who has been representing black plaintiffs in Tucson desegregation lawsuits for almost four decades.

With poor education in poor communities living in public housing projects, this doesn’t allow the young to be prepared for the job requirements in these continuing tough economic times.

“Though blacks make up only 13 percent of the U.S. population, more blacks were arrested nationwide for robbery, murder and manslaughter in 2009 than whites, according to the FBI. The imprisonment rate for black men was nearly 17 times higher than white men and almost three times higher than Hispanic men notes the EEOC.” (Taken from an article by James Bovard dated Feb. 15 2013.

Charles M. Blow (New York Times – Jan. 5, 2013) wrote, “As the best-selling author Michelle Alexander pointed out in her sensational 2010 book “The New Jim Crow,” various factors, including the methodical mass incarceration of black men has lead to the disintegration of the black family, the disenfranchisement of millions of people, and a new and very real era of American oppression.”

For the survival of these United States, this chaos has to stop. If the African-American community continues to place all their hopes on the liberals with their false promises, it will be a continuing disaster for them and our nation. But if they are persuaded to at least listen to conservatives we may have a chance of turning this intolerable situation around.
