Readers Write: Don’t expect Trump to clean up his act later

The Island Now

Donald Trump, in a televised interview, was asked if he would be toning down his attacks, replied that when he is elected president he would be very presidential.

He still, however, has to take down three people before he will change. He continues to use the vilest of tones, hateful vulgar language, promises that he can never keep, insults.

Who would be trusting enough to accept such pronouncements?

He sometimes seems to reduce his inflammable rhetoric, but he quickly returns to this usual repulsive manner and language.

We simply cannot, even when beset with the real problems and stresses all around us, believe that such consistent evidence of incapacity to control his behavior will miraculously change.

How naive can we be to believe that all his promises have any real substance?

Yes, we want to believe promises, but hucksters have always fooled believers, to their disillusionment.

We really must listen carefully to what he says, and to the almost daily revelations of his many business failures and the trail of ventures that ended in costing his investors heavy financial losses, after he had  managed to milk them for his benefit.

The latest discovery is that his supposed heavy contributions to good causes were actually overvalued by him or manipulated by employing financial tricks.

He even diverted money he raised to his foundation.

Using your foundation makes it possible to get credit for contributions that the original donors could have used.

Attention must be paid.
