Readers Write: Ed board prepared me for village board

The Island Now

am Ellen Ritz and am proud to live in East Williston.

Twenty eight years ago my husband and I bought our first home in this special village.

I fell in love with East Williston, its library, the Village events, its warm feeling of community and everything else it has to offer.

Our village is a family and as in any family, we can disagree about issues.

But what is important is that people are passionate and care about our community.

I am running for trustee of the Village of East Williston and I would be honored to serve you.

To this job I will bring my experience, dedication and passion.

Many know me from my service on the East Williston School Board where I served six years as trustee, vice president and then president.

During my tenure my approach and policy was always to fully review and evaluate all factors before making decisions.

After examining the East Williston SD budget line by line for many years, as president I voted against the budget because, as I said in many meetings leading up to the vote, citing precise line items where there were excessive overages that could be reduced without affecting the quality of our students’ education, it was not a fiscally prudent budget.

My approach to issues affecting our village will be the same: to examine the information before me, research the issue as much as possible, and make an informed and fiscally prudent decision to best balance short and long term effects.  The board has presented much information to the community regarding our current water situation.

But I come with no pre-conceived answer.

Before making a decision, I will fully examine all proposals, detailed budget numbers, financial projections and the overall impact on our entire community before I can say whether I am for or against a well or an agreement with Williston Park.
