Readers Write: Ex-senator’s conviction a victory for we the people

The Island Now

Justice for the people as another corrupt politician goes to jail.

Former state Sen. Majority Leader Pedro Espada Jr. was convicted of stealing $545,000 from Soundview [Healthcare Network] to pay for his personal expenses.

His son Pedro Gautier Espada was also involved and will be sentence to jail as well.

But it troubles me greatly as a citizen and as a taxpayer that those we elect and trust to protect and assist the needs of the poor end up stealing from those in most need. In the words of a ‘70s TV show called “Barretta,” Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.”

Well Pedro Espada Jr. will do the time for stealing from the poor. And now victory for the people!
