Readers Write: GN library putting money in wrong places

The Island Now

I have been visiting each of the Great Neck Library branches lately (including Main).

At Lakeville all the computers were in use. At Station, four were in use. At Main, where there are so many, most were empty.

I surveyed the staff at Station and determined that they have gotten much busier. My thoughts are that the library has done no analysis of use on how many visitors for each hour of the day. They have no idea of how much activity there is for each author.

They buy loads of books to feed the book discussion groups.

My library tax of almost $600 is going to go up 10 percent, as is yours, if you live in our district. Just so the beautiful Main can get more beautiful.

How about beautifying Lakeville (my branch), and getting them more computers if you can find room to change your mind.

They recently cleaned out the store room in the basement. How about a nice lounge for participants.

A window view would be appreciated. No books in the basement (as we learned at Station).
