Readers Write: GN’s Main Library needs repairs, not renovation

The Island Now

I want to thank Karen Rubin for giving me the opportunity to send a vituperate note to their paper. There are three very expensive items on the board/architect plan for the building called Main.

One is the relocation of the main ‘drag’ through the massive length of the (width) of the library. They just had to move it and create expense. Then, second, is the staircase. It ‘needs to be moved’.

The third is the relocation of the administrative offices. They are afraid of flooding and want to get to the second floor, vacating the basement.

Levels is also in the basement but then they will call off any activity if flooding is imminent. I yield to their need for protection from floods. Have they done the same for earthquakes as they have happened in the recent past.

The building needs lots of repairs. It is decades of neglect while they planned for a whole redo of the building. Lots of taxes as no one asks what will the cost of interest be.

Stop them now from doing anything other than repair!!!.
