Reader’s Write: Government fails to police welfare

The Island Now

In reference to Dr. Morris’ letter published in the March 29 edition of the Great Neck News, I would like to add a few salient points.

In my many years of state service, I have seen welfare abuse that is unbelievable.

Welfare recipients substituting for each other on driver license tests, collection of welfare in two names, ownership of expensive vehicles and homes etc.

This abuse goes back to the 1960s through the present.

The honest taxpayer pays for it while the politicians reap the rewards while being re-elected by these same people. Many of them voting more than once because they use two names i.e. Lopez-Gomez and Lopez-Rodriquez etc.

The safeguards are minimal so the abuse just piles on.

Right on Dr. Morris.
