Readers Write: Government snooping no threat to the righteous

The Island Now

I read with interest the letter by Charles Samek entitled, “Gov’s snooping protects our safety.” I would say that the author has a good point.

If we are living a righteous life, there is not much to fear about our government snooping to protect us.

However, with the system capable of prying into people’s privacy, there is always a danger for it to fall under less-than-noble minds.

For example, some gas station employees and store clerks have stolen customers credit card information and caused much harm.

For suspects of crimes, I would say it is alright but for any other purposes, one would rather the government stay out of one’s life.

Last but not the least, that article reminds us about what the Bible has said.

In the Old Testament, for example, Proverbs 12:10, “A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”

Ezekiel 13:22, “Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life.”
