Reader’s Write: Gun safety, talks with Iran worth pursuing

The Island Now

There was a few days ago on the PBS Newshour an economist who won a Nobel Prize. He commented on noticing the housing bubble phenomenon occurring in Brazil and that government took note about what he said.

If one wishes to purchase a used motor vehicle, the latest edition of one of the books should be acquired that says what those vehicles are worth. If one is considering buying a particular home, the mean value of that home could and should be determined by knowing its highest and lowest values over its lifetime (adjusted for inflation).

That is the price that should be paid for it. There is again the effort to inflate the value of homes and buyer beware. Pay no more than its mean value adjusted by its present condition. Don’t get caught in the con game.

A week or two earlier I saw some economists fawning over a tenth of one percent change in the unemployment figure. I have seen nothing of real value even in the so-called great book writing economists.

The only worthwhile ones are those who count the likes of tomatoes and potatoes to see that supply is meeting demand. At present, our economy is saturated with goods and services. All this talk of stimulating the economy is pure hokum. They should be on the unemployment lines too.

As I have said, all of my communications may be monitored. I have nothing to hide. I don’t know the exact details of how Chancellor Merkel’s phone was monitored or what actually what happened in France.

I do know that security means business! We depend on it. President Obama could just tell them “You should remember how many lives we gave to straighten things out over there and how many lives we gave to rescue The French from the madman.” That is reality! Don’t get mad at us.

It can be assumed by what Stephen Morris wrote in Readers Write, Nov. 15 that he and his wife now each have a firearm for protection. There are now newfangled firearms that are programed to fire only if held in the hand of the owner. If the gun is stolen, the worst that could happen is that someone could be pistol whipped or robbed at gunpoint.

To be responsible firearm owners, Mr.Morris and his wife should have those. At the time of purchase, a shot could be fired and a record made of the ballistics. That way, if someone was shot with that gun it would be clear “Who done it.” Case closed.

Knowing the world these days, should Mr. Morris feel a need to go out and get those commies or something as some have been known to do, he could write about it in Readers Write and all we readers would be sympathetic and want to help. So that there is not a misconception, I mean help him, not help get the commies.

I would have to review the facts but at least part of our right to bear arms was granted when our country was young and did not have a standing militia. That way, if needed, a force could be put together in quick time. As is usually the case, old laws are left on the books past their time and can be misused and abused.

Lastly, whatever can be done to create a responsible working relationship with Iran would be worthwhile. Iran could feel secure in that The US watches out for its allies in case anyone tries something.

For the U.S. to be trusted in the long run we have to hope that our future presidents continue productive diplomacy.
