From the desk of Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano: International music nights to debut soon

The Island Now

I am so very proud of our parks system and all we have to offer in our great county.  This summer we have an action packed line up of quality entertainment and the best part is that most events are free for Nassau County residents.

My efforts to create tourism, coupled with the immense support from local business sponsors, make it possible to bring top-notch events like the TD Bank fireworks spectacular to you at no charge.

This summer my biweekly column will alert you to our upcoming events. So get your lawn chair ready and mark your calendar for some good old fashion free park entertainment.

Next weekend in Nassau we are kicking off our International Music Series on Friday, June 1, with Bangladesh American Night, starting at 7:30 p.m. on the great lawn at Eisenhower Park.

The International Music Nights Concert Series is a great Nassau County tradition with nearly two-dozen nights dedicated to music and culture that honor a range of ethnic groups.  So come enjoy the park, music and culture all summer long.

Also, don’t forget that on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3you can stop by the Eisenhower Park Kite Field for our Fine Art Show.

Our International Music series continues with Armenian American Night on Friday, June 8, Italian American Night Saturday, June 9 and Israeli American Night on Sunday, June 10.  Events begin at 7:30 p.m.

Old Bethpage Village Restoration also has fun and exciting events throughout the summer.  On Sunday, June 10 stop by the Village for a Ford Model A Car Show.  Children and adults alike will enjoy this journey into the past.

I am also pleased to continue the opening of our county pools.  Cantiague Park, Wantagh Park and Christopher Morley Park will open on June 25.

Please visit www.nassaucountyny.gov/parks for more information on any of our parks events.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for June 30 when we host Long Island’s biggest fireworks spectacular; TD Bank Celebrates America Fireworks show in Eisenhower Park.

Thank you and enjoy your parks system.
