It costs $362 for a family to join Manorhaven pool, and park there (for me it’s “only” $334 – I’m a vet), and add $150 for a nanny.
This is a bargain compared to Tully Park pool at $522. The cost to join my local pool at Whitney Pond Park is, well, there isn’t any, because the pool is still closed.
I have come to expect ineptitude from town government, but this is more of a kleptocracy. Clearly the pricing is based on the market, instead of as a service to the public.
So, I’m wondering if the Kaiman administration has any concept of what the word “public” means.
Imagine if there were a $5 rental fee for getting a book at the library, because it’s still a bargain compared to the cost of buying it.
Or think about if there were a usage fee for your child to go down the slide at the park, because, again, it was cheaper than the alternative.
The whole point of a public facility supported by taxpayer dollars is so that everyone can use it: rich, poor, young, old. Everyone, as in, it’s public.
However, in the avaricious mind set of the Kaiman administration, it is a revenue source waiting to be milked.
They treat it as their business, but with a taxpayer subsidy.
This is the naked greed of an administration that never met a tax it didn’t like.
It’s not enough to charge sky-high town taxes; now they’ve found a way to tax summer.
I will gladly vote for the supervisor candidate who restores “public” facilities to their rightful owners- the public.
