Reader’s Write: Kudos to de Blasio in taking on traffic deaths

The Island Now

I would like to applaud Mayor de Blasio creating a task force in an attempt to make our streets safer.

Mayor de Blasio has created an interagency group that will attempt to curb traffic fatalities. This group will include the New York City Police Department, the city Department of Transportation, the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the Taxi & Limousine commission, to implement a ”Vision Zero Plan,” to make sure another life is not taken by drivers who operate under the influence of stupidity.

Last year an 86-year-old male neighbor of mine was killed with his dog and were killed by a driver who was speeding to catch the green light as was reported.

A slower speed limit in residential areas would greatly reduce injuries and death.

Added to that we have a school on the same block.

As such I would also favor speed cameras near schools and those areas where traffic accidents occurred. I also favor strict law enforcement  Now I feel our mayor has it right and for that I say,” Kudos.”
