From the desk of Mayor Paul Ehrbar: Kudos to WP FD; Nat’l. Nite Out ahead

The Island Now

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Williston Park Fire Department for hosting their annual 4th of July parade.

It is my understanding that the number of parades is extremely limited throughout Nassau county. This date is extremely significant to our country’s history and I believe that it is important to recognize this date with this tradition of a parade.

Thanks to our auxiliary police for their participation in the parade ensuring a safe event for both participants and observers. Thanks to all those who participated in this time-honored tradition.

As  reported at this past week’s public meeting, I occasionally receive calls from residents about mischievous behavior taking place in various areas of the village. Most of these calls come hours and even days after these events. It is important that if resident, or a neighborhood block captain is aware of such activities a call should be made to 911 immediately.

Some individuals hesitate to call 911 believing the number should only be used in a serious or severe emergency situation. A call to the precinct, Village Hall or myself prior to a 911 call delays police action. If too much time has passed the police will be unable to respond.

Neighborhood Watch is having a meeting , Thursday July 26th at 7:30  p.m., at the Village Hall in preparation for National Night Out Against Crime(Tuesday August 7th).

The heat waves that have covered the Village this summer has made a membership at the Roger J Fay Williston Park Pool  a worthwhile investment.

Manager Paul Blake, Anne Buttafuoco along with the full staff, have been working hard to provide the best at the facility for members.  Although we are in the middle of July it is not too late to sign up for a membership . The heat is expected to remain above average throughout the remainder of the season. Sitting around the pool provides a cooling and relaxing atmosphere for peoples of all ages. It allows for friends and neighbors to meet and socialize in a pleasant setting. It also gives the youth a chance to play with both their current friends and new friends.

I remind all to review the new garbage schedule to avoid confusion.

Continue to enjoy the days of summer!
