From the desk of Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano: Let me entertain you this summer

The Island Now

I am so very proud of Nassau County’s parks system and all we have to offer our residents.  This summer we have an action-packed line up of quality entertainment and the best part is that most events are free for residents.

My efforts to create tourism, coupled with immense support from local business sponsors, make it possible to bring top notch entertainment to you at no charge.  This summer my bi-weekly column will alert you to our upcoming events.

Next Friday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m., Nassau County hosts a free concert with the fun and groovy Disco Unlimited Transport yourself to a time of disco dancing and be exhilarated by powerful vocals and tight harmonies.  Dance grooves coupled with a synchronized stage and light show will turn the evening into the best of disco nights.  Stop by Eisenhower Park for a blast from the past with some great disco music.

On Saturday, June 16, I am honored to host a free concert featuring Don McLean.  Enjoy one of our nation’s most enduring singer-songwriters perform classic hits such as “American Pie” and “Vincent (Starry Starry Night)” for his 40th Anniversary.  This exciting show will take place in Eisenhower Park at 7:30 p.m.

Nickerson Beach Park – located on the Atlantic Ocean – will open for the summer season on Saturday, June 16.  Nickerson Beach will remain open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset.  From the beach and shoreline to the playground, basketball courts and skate park, Nickerson Beach offers Nassau families and opportunity for a Stay-cation every day this summer.

Don’t forget that on Sunday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m., the International Music Nights Concert Series in Eisenhower Park continues with a Greek American Night celebration.  The International Music Nights Concert Series is a great Nassau County tradition with nearly two-dozen nights dedicated to music and culture that honor a range of ethnic groups.  Come enjoy the park, music and culture all summer long.

On Friday, June 22 stop by Eisenhower Park at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy “The Producers” a Tony Award winning musical that will be performed by Plaza Theatre Production.  Share in the laughter as performers sing and dance their way through the biggest business scam there ever was.

On Saturday, June 23, celebrate Caribbean American Night.  This free festival features a spectacular fireworks display and plenty of music and food to have you entertained for hours!  Also, our International Music series marches on with Indian American Night on Sunday, June 24th at 7:30 p.m. in Eisenhower Park.

As the summer heat arrives, don’t forget to cool down at one of Nassau County’s premier pools located at Cantiague Park, Wantagh Park and Christopher Morley Park.  These facilities open on June 25.
