Readers Write: Letter-writers need to be ID’d

The Island Now

I object to the policy of Blank State Media to conceal the full name of the writers of  letters to the editor. The paper permits writers to identify themselves only by the initials of his or her last name.

I understand that the writers are known to the editors. But that is not enough. Persons who take a position should stand up and identify themselves.

I would be glad to hear how the editors can defend this practice – which, to the best of my knowledge, no other major newspaper in the United States permits.

And then they should admit their error and revert to the proper practice of giving the writer’s full name and home town.
