Readers Write: Letter-writer’s opinions sparks paper’s cancellation

The Island Now

On Aug. 9, I received both a copy of the New Hyde Park Herald Courier and my annual renewal notice for the same.

I read an “editorial” by one Stephen Morris, who made some amazingly obnoxious references to “liberals” (including “self-centered” “hypocritical” “egomaniacal” and “narcissists” without a single example or explanation).

He went on to gleefully disparage what he interprets as their beliefs and practices, again without explanation. He then attempted to demonstrate his points by using two examples, specifically Al Gore and Michael Moore (neither of whom are a “government or union workers” as targeted by Mr. Morris as representing liberals).

This demonstration of an attack of hyperbole took over 20 paragraphs and covered one-third of the page. Upon turning the page, I read another editorial which suggested that Mr. Morris’ attempted dominance of the editorial pages of this newspaper is an ongoing issue, and one which is clearly not being managed by the editorial team at the Courier.

Therefore, both the newspaper and the beg for renewal went into the garbage.

By the way Mr. Morris, you state that liberals have a “lifetime mission to save the planet.” Is there something wrong with that goal?

Do you happen to have a spare planet in your pocket?
