Considering our town’s large Democratic majority, The Roslyn Times and it’s four sister papers have shown a lot of courage, by publishing articles by those of us who disagree with President Obama and his left-wing agenda.
His supporters seem to object to anyone questioning the massive debt and unlimited spending, his violation of our constitutional rights, his introduction of socialized medicine, his numerous foreign policy blunders, and, in the name of “helping those less fortunate than us,” transforming a large portion of our population into a permanent, welfare class. Mentioning anything critical and you get immediate sanctimonious condemnation, outright hostility, and even accusations of being a racist.
His admirers consider any criticism to be a personal affront and some actually call for a ban on any opposing viewpoints. Do you believe that? In America?
Unfortunately, to many Obama supporters, it’s simply,”The gospel according to Barack,” period! No exceptions! No questions asked. However, there is a glimmer of hope. Steve Blank, the publisher of this newspaper, doesn’t let his own opinions stop him from printing both sides of every issue. Bravo!!
To all you uncompromising Obama supporters:
1 – When you attended a Tea Party meeting, just to see what all this activity was all about, were you surprised by the types of people you met there? Or the topics discussed ? Or the civility of the discussions? Oh! You never went to ANY Tea Party event? You never read any of our literature? Ever? Too bad !
2 – Are you always glued to CBS, NBC and ABC ? Do you ever consider watching Fox or reading the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page?
Some of you probably get everything you need to know, from the New York Times and MSNBC. So sad ! Why don’t you try listening to Rush or Bill O., or Shaun or Glen Beck or Mark Levin or Jim Demint or The Five, or Chris Wallace, or, God forbid, anyone of the 48 members of the Congressional Tea Party Caucus. Imagine if someone at Planned Parenthood ever caught you listening to Sara Palin or Michelle Bachmann or Ted Cruz?
Oh my God ! You would be permanently banned from the PTA and your synagogue ! The truth of the matter is that you get all your information from those who oppose us, NEVER directly from the source ! Right? What a shame!
Let’s examine a recent incident, so maybe, just maybe, you can see the differences between Conservative verses Progressive solutions.
Let’s discuss what happened in Madison, Wisconsin, two years ago.
You remember when their Governor, Scott Walker, and The Tea Party, actually went up against the powerful forces of the Left? Did you block out the horrific images of the thousands of Wisconsin Democrats, rioting and violently storming their capital in Madison? The reason? It was their illegal response to Gov. Walker’s attempt to reduce the state’s huge, out of control, deficit. Did you forget that many of those protestors were school teachers, who actually spat on the Republican legislators. How about when they urinated on Gov. Scott Walker’s office door?
These malcontents probably taught ethics and constitutional law at a local university!
When defaming a Supreme Court Justice didn’t work, and trying to recall six GOP State Senators didn’t pan out, they forced a recall of Gov. Walker himself. What happened? The Teachers Union spent millions of dollars. Outsiders poured into Wisconsin to influence the outcome. But, the people spoke through the ballot box, and the governor won by an even bigger margin than he did in his first election. The Tea Party was victorious.
Do you liberals have one more minute before you go back to watching CNN? I would like to explain the issues involved. It’s called Act 10, a Tea Party concept, which attempted to rectify some of Wisconsin’s severe financial problems. Why was it necessary for the teachers to riot in their state Capital and even shutdown their schools? I’ll leave it to them to explain their motives.
But, these are the specifics of Act 10:
1 – from now on, Wisconsin’s government workers would have to contribute a mere 5.7% to their pensions! Instead of nothing! Remember, their salaries were not reduced one dime.
2 – From now on, they would pay 12.8 percent of their healthcare premiums. This was still much lower than the average worker in the private sector.
3 – collective bargaining would be limited to base wages only. And finally
4- Union dues would not be automatically withdrawn from every worker’s paycheck. Members would have the choice whether to join the union or not? Last time I looked, we still live in a democracy !
Act 10 passed ! The Governor and the residents of Wisconsin won! Overlooked by the likes of our own Congressman Steve Israel, and all the other Democrats accepting political contributions from the Teacher’s Union, is what happened in Wisconsin a year later.
You won’t believe it!
1- no teacher was fired or laid off ! Must I repeat that? Not one teacher lost their job ! Not one! Tell that to Randi Weingarten and her teacher’s union! Compare that with so many Long Island school districts who are choosing to lay off teachers, rather than making some minor adjustments in their contracts.
2 – it’s now much easier to have merit-hiring and firing. Remember, giving our kids a great education always starts with great teachers! In Wisconsin at least, they are now actually able to fire the lousy ones! Tell that to our Congressman Tim Bishop, who still refuses to go against anything the teachers union asks for.
3 – And perhaps , the biggest change: A year later, the budget deficit is not only closed but a budget surplus was produced! Do you believe that?? Can you find one Democratic elected official who can make that claim ?
And, what do you think Governor Walker is going to do with their surplus ? Unheard of !! He is sending every taxpayer a tax refund !! Way to go Gov!!
I have an idea ! Before you judge any conservative group , why don’t you attend one of their events, read their literature, and talk to their leaders.
Don’t worry ! We don’t bite !!
And, if I see you at one of our meeting, I promise not to tell anyone driving a Prius, with an Obama-Biden bumper sticker, that you were there!
