Readers Write: Library revamp a strong plan

The Island Now

There have been many letters and other articles about how the renovation of the Great Neck Library Main Branch is being accomplished.

The need for this work is not in dispute by any of the residents of this library district. The how has severely divided our community for almost 10 years.

To pay for this work requires borrowing money through a bond issuance. The first two attempts to get such approval were rejected by the voters as being too costly.

The third amount at $10.4 million gained voter approval.

Based on that fixed dollar limit, the library board and several dozen community volunteers and many members of the library staff have been working for two years to define the details of renovation that could be accomplished within that bond limit.

Most of the discussions have been done at meetings that were and will be open to the public. Those who have concerns about this effort can attend any and all of these meetings and have their issues openly discussed.

It is far more constructive to help this effort than to stand afar and criticize.
