Readers Write: Lighthouse project affects entire N. Shore

The Island Now

The article appearing in the Jan. 22 issue of the Great Neck News regarding Sen. Schumer, asking “the National Park Service to issue $165,000 in federal funding to restore the Stepping Stones Lighthouse,” was read with great interest.

Yet, I was disappointed that the article appeared only in the Great Neck News and not in any of your other community newspapers.

Stepping Stones Lighthouse is extremely important to many communities beyond the shores of Great Neck, including those in New York City (Bronx and Queens), Westchester and Connecticut, as well as commercial maritime boating traffic along Long Island Sound and the East River, as it remains a vital aid to navigation today.

To think that this story has little merit to your other readers in communities beyond Great Neck is a failure on your part and needs to be corrected.

Hopefully your news story will see further distribution and help to provide for restoration of this building to its original elegance, which was added National Register of Historical Places.
