Reader’s Write: Main Branch project ignores new technology

The Island Now

I do not always subscribe to Karen Rubin’s opinion. Now I do!

Loads of money is designated for that building which rests on a piece of property worth less than $1 million. The board has a grandiose idea of upgrading it to match the library in Denver. But they are not a mile-high library.

I requested the Town of North Hempstead to contemplate putting disabled parking slots in front of the two libraries which front on public streets. Their experts nixed it as too dangerous for those special slots. I concede.

When the ‘Main’ closes for the makeover there is not branch which has nationally required disabled access at the door or bathrooms. Where will the disabled go?

Queens got a grant and donations of reading tablets for circulation amongst their readers. They are not going after bigger buildings. Our library board should be recalled as all they seem to want to do is to spend money.

If not by taxation then by donation. I will not give them a penny even if I find it in the parking lot as I did last month.
