Reader’s Write: Munsey needs enthusiastic trustees

The Island Now

This year’s Village elections are once again about electing the most qualified candidates to effectively serve our Village. The Village is in need of enthusiastic Trustees that are proactive in their approach, keep residents informed, have the ability to spearhead and manage important projects or crises, and ultimately see them through to completion in a timely manner.  Our Village Justice must have the professional experience, and temperament to effectively execute our local laws and serve our residents.

For these reasons I am happy to support incumbent, Jennifer Noone and John Lippmann for Trustee, and acting Village Justice John Turano for Justice.  It’s my belief electing them will further strengthen the Village Court, and Board of Trustees prior to several major projects the Village will face in the coming years.

Trustee Noone was an active member of the Building Advisory Committee prior to being appointed to her current Trustee position.  Since joining the Board, Jennifer has taken a very proactive role with her responsibilities. She immediately got to work surveying our decaying streets, and effectively tapped the NYS CHIPS funds to make needed repairs.  Jennifer also worked with Munsey Park School to extend a sidewalk west from the highly trafficked main entrance.  This including acting as the liaison between the school, the Village, and other community groups that helped fund this important project.  Trustee Noone’s ambition, legal background, and ability to get projects done in a timely manner will be necessary to negotiate our refuse contract and devise a long term plan for continued road repairs.

John Lipmann has served the Village on the Building Advisory Committee and was invaluable working as a liaison with residents directly affected by the erection of the MLWD radio tower. During that process, John handled himself with a tremendous level of professionalism, and the appropriate amount of grit, that ultimately led to the tower being taken down.  It was this experience that made John aware he had more to offer the Village and led to his commitment to run for Trustee.  John’s strong professional and educational background will be invaluable to the Village with many upcoming projects including the MLWD construction of a new water tower, the replacement of the water main down Park Avenue, and working on short and long term financial infrastructure plans for the Village.

Incumbent, John Turano was originally appointed to the bench by former Mayor Harry Nicolaides and has since spent 10 years serving our Village. His 45 years practicing law and background as an Assistant District Attorney, a Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of North Hempstead, and Prosecuting Attorney for the Villages of Lake Success and New Hyde Park gives him the distinctive experience to handle any case that may come in front of the court. This tremendous experience combined with his temperament, sense of fairness, and knowledge of applicable municipal law is unparalleled. He has served and will continue to serve the village well.

I am proud to support these candidates, ask your help, and encourage you to elect Jennifer Noone, John Lippmann, and John Turano, on March 18th. Voting will take place at Munsey Park’s Village Hall at 1777 Northern Blvd from 12-9pm.
