Reader’s Write: No putting up, taking down posters in parks

The Island Now

On Tuesday, March 18, two men were observed and photographed on Manhasset Park District property systematically removing election posters, placing them in their vehicles and putting up posters of the opposing candidates.

These actions may constitute the crimes of criminal trespass and criminal mischief, under New York’s Penal Law.

The individuals who were photographed on Tuesday should understand if they are identified, their commuter permits will be terminated, any future applications may be denied by the district and they may be subject to criminal sanctions. In respect to this incident, the local precinct and board of elections were notified.

Additionally it should be mentioned that these men were tampering with signs that were placed in violation of the district’s rules which prohibit the posting of signs on park district property.

Thus, those who originally posted the signs also chose to ignore Manhasset Park District rules.

As mentioned in previous articles in the press, the placement of election materials, posters or flyers on Manhasset park property or commuter vehicles is strictly prohibited. Please be advised, that violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We appreciate your cooperation in these matters.

The Commissioners of the Manhasset Park District
