Readers Write: North Hills not involved in Inisfada asbestos removal

The Island Now

In regards to the Inisfada asbestos removal, please be advised that notwithstanding misinformation being disseminated by uninformed people, no permit from the Village of North Hills is required for asbestos removal.

Asbestos removal is regulated by the New York State Department of Labor.

Asbestos removal contractors are required to have a license issued from N.Y.S.D.L.

On a removal project the licensed contractor is required to submit a “notification” to the N.Y.S.D.L. prior to the work. The state sent an inspector to verify compliance with the state law.

The Department of Labor has informed the village that all asbestos removal was done in accordance with regulations and that no person has been placed in danger and our own building department went to the site to verify and confirm all of the above.

The village has not issued any violations to the property owners because the village is not aware of any violations of applicable law.
