Readers Write: Not-for-profit chiefs are overpaid

The Island Now

What happens when an influential, Obama supporter, who was also a two-term, Democratic mayor of Detroit, goes on trial and is sentenced to prison for 28 years?

(That’s right, 28 years!) His massive corruption scheme and it’s role in Detroit’s bankruptcy is quickly buried by the mainstream media.

What happens when a world renown African-American doctor publicly criticizes the president’s brand of socialized medicine? He didn’t stop there. He ridiculed Obama’s rejection of traditional family values and religious ideology?

The good doctor was at first ignored, then trivialized and, then, when that didn’t seem to stop him, he was, (get ready for this one!) suddenly, out of the blue, audited by the IRS!

What happens when we find out that it’s not only those “terrible” Wall Street executives who are making those huge salaries, but that the CEO’s of many of the Obama-supported, non-for profits, are also earning the same million dollar paychecks ?  Better keep that one really quiet. Right?

Threatening and vilifying the opposition into silence, having their media friends only present the government’s views, or burying anything that describes their President in a bad light, is now just an everyday occurrence. Doesn’t this obvious abuse of political influence and power frighten any of you? Let’s hope you change your mind before it happens to you.

His name is Kwame Kilpatrick and he served as Detroit’s Mayor from 2002-2008. He came from a well-connected African-American family, is a well-educated lawyer, wealthy and, most definitely, really influential within Michigan’s Democratic Party.

Now, he is going to spend the next 28 years of his life in prison for, (get a load of these crimes) racketeering, conspiracy, fraud, extortion, tax crimes, and, if these were not enough, he siphoned off millions of dollars from a local charity meant for distressed Detroit residents. He even had police officers transferred or fired, when he thought they were closing in on his massive criminal enterprise.

Have you seen any recent stories of Mayor Kilpatrick on Chanel Four? Doubt it. Last month I watched an update on the decades old Enron case. Oh, I forgot! That’s okay because it occurred during the Bush years.

His name is Dr. Ben Carson. As an African-American being raised by a single mom in Detroit’s gang-ridden inner city, what do you think of his chances of succeeding? Not very good.

But even coming from that background, at the age of 33, he rose to national prominence as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the very top of his profession.

In February, at the National Prayer Breakfast, with President Obama uncomfortably looking on, he actually criticized the President’s new government-run health-care plan as well as condemning our country’s current moral deterioration. Wow!!

Dr Carson eloquently spoke of his own God-centered life, how big government prevents members of  his own race from rising out of poverty, and how Obama’s programs only promote and insure a permanent welfare class.

We all knew that saying these things in front of the president and a national audience would not be tolerated by this “community organizer.” .

So what happened? It didn’t take long for his IRS to come calling. Didn’t you say that it was only the Tea Party Groups that were being targeted ? Perhaps this problem is more extensive than you think? Now it looks like it includes anyone who disagrees with the president.

Scary, isn’t it? Are you still not concerned ?

In June, for the first time in Dr. Carson’s entire life, the IRS asked for all his real estate records and then launched a sweeping audit of all his finances! He joined the many others who felt the wrath of President Obama’s IRS, as a retaliation against those who coincidently criticized his administration.

After putting Dr. Carson thru the IRS ringer, lasting more than a year, (that’s right, a year) the IRS concluded that he was totally innocent of any wrongdoing and they dropped all charges.

To those of you out there, who cavalierly say that “it doesn’t matter, as long as you have nothing to hide,” I doubt whether you would feel this way if you spent an entire year of your life, frantically fighting the IRS.

This would be especially true if you knew you were innocent.

Obama’s message was loud and clear. This would happen to you if you dare criticized him.

As he said in a speech last week, “better not mess with this president”!

Sounds like he was directing his threats against everyone who criticizes him, even if you are black, a doctor, a Democrat, or anyone else for that matter. What happened to his pre-election promise to bring us all together.

By the way, does anyone else find it at all distressing when the President of ur United States, uses the words: “Don’t mess with this President.”

Is he Don Corleone? Or just another Chicago thug? Is that a way for any president to talk?

His name is Thomas Campbell and he is the CEO of New York’s not-for profit, Metropolitan Museum of Art. He and the rest of Manhattan’s elite, just love President Obama.

Those in the arts think he is the greatest.

The non-profits adore him!  And why not? Through the use of their tax-exempt status and showering millions of federal taxpayer dollars in grants and endowments, every “non- profit” on the planet bows before him.

Do you blame them? Well, not all of them! Forget if you are a Conservative or Pro-Life and expect  to quickly receive your non-profit number.

Okay all you Great Neck liberals, after years of hearing you condemn all those “greedy”, corporate CEO’s, what would you say if I told you that many charitable, non-for profit CEOs earn just as much. Really?

A new study by Charity Navigator was published in the New York Post. Want to hear a few of the salaries of some of those poor, struggling, philanthropic individuals?

Now remember, this is not JP Morgan or IBM. These are companies where capitalistic profits are condemned and the private-sector, business models are repudiated. These are the non-profits!

Get out your box of tissues. Wait till you hear how these guys really suffer. “The Charity CEO Compensation Study” recently analyzed 3,929 charities which rely on public ( that’s us!!) support.

Here are some examples of their CEO’s pay:

1 – Thomas Campbell, that previously mentioned CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, made $1.5 million in salary and other compensation.

2 – Kenneth Davis, head of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine earned $1.3 million dollars.

3 – Rockefeller University’s new CEO, Marc Tessler-Levigne makes  $1.3 million.

4 – The NY based non-profit , Council on Foreign Relations head, Dr Richard Haass “only” made  $900,000.

The list goes on and on.

The study concluded that many of these salaries were “excessive” and “outrageously high” and they didn’t even include some of the perks that go along with the job. I bet that Charity Navigator just can’t wait to get that coincidental letter from the IRS.

How do you get by during the Obama era?

Easy, just start a not-for-profit that just loves Barack Obama.  Purchasing that Park Ave penthouse or that beachfront vacation home in East Hampton is fine. But, more important, don’t forget that generous contribution to the Democratic National Committee.
