Reader’s Write: Obama’s approach encourages enemies

The Island Now

Hillsdale College’s Imprimis pamphlet dated March 2014 [Volume 43, Number 3] stated: “Early Warning: The Continuing Need for National Defense.”

The article was written by Brian T. Kennedy [president of the Claremont Institute] who stated: “Harold Rood, a professor of international relations at Claremont McKenna College, who died in 2011, was not as well known as he was influential. A soldier in Patton’s Army in World War II, he taught his students that war is permanent to the human condition and that in war it is better to win, for no one ever had to accommodate a loser. America will always have enemies, he told them, and those enemies will forever be planning and expending resources to place themselves in a position to defeat us. It would be nice if it was otherwise, he was fond to saying, but it is not otherwise. It is the way the world works.”

Witness the world today and America, in fact, has enemies.

So, it is incumbent upon our commander-in -chief to insure that America’s military be the most powerful it has ever been. Is Obama doing this?

Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of England in July 31, 1995 wrote in National Review: “Such are the realities of population, resources, technology, and capital that if America remains the dominant partner in a united West, then the West can continue to be the dominant power in the world as a whole. And since collective security can only really be provided if there is a superpower of last resort, the rest of the world [apart from “rogue states” and terrorist groups] would generally support or at least acquiesce in, such an international structure.”

Did not the Czech Republic and Poland request a missile defense system be put on their soil as part of this desired “collective security”? And what did our commander-in-chief do? The KGB thug, Putin, convinced Obama not to proceed! And what did Putin give Obama? Nada, zilch, zero.

Sen. John McCain, who has seen war up close and personal, wrote an Op-Ed in The New York Times [March 15, 2014] entitled “Obama Made America Look Weak.”

He stated: “For five years, Americans have been told that “the tide of war is receding,” that we can pull back from the world at little cost to our interest and values. This had fed a perception that America is weak, and to people like Mr.

Putin, weakness is provocative.”

McCain continued: “That is how Mr. Putin viewed the “reset” policy. United States missile defense plans were scaled back . Allies in Eastern Europe and Georgia were undercut. NATO enlargement was tabled. A new strategic arms reduction treaty required significant cuts by America, but not Russia. Mr. Putin gave little. Mr. Obama promised “more flexibility

And don’t get me started on how Obama is treating Israel our only true ally in the Middle East! Disgusting.

So, one question to all of you Obama voters who voted him in office twice. I tow is he doing in defending America and our friends?

Just asking.
