Twenty eight years ago we fulfilled a lifelong dream when our youngest son was Bar Mitzvah’d at Judaism’s most holy place, the Western Wall in Jerusalem. What an honor !
The young, tough Israeli soldiers, each carrying an Uzi, plus the historic reputation of the Massad, (Israel’s intelligence forces), made us feel quite safe in such a hostile environment.
But today, Israel faces an even more ominous threat.
Living with constant Hamas rocket attacks on their cities and towns was something they were prepared to handle. Their incredibly successful dome defense negated most of these rockets.
But it was the surprise discovery of the sophistication and extent of terrorist tunnels which caught the Israelis by surprise.
President Obama still wants to negotiate with the terrorists. He feels he can somehow persuade them to not only stop the attacks on Israel’s civilian population but actually co-exist with their Jewish neighbor.
That would be quite a change, since their own charter calls for the death of every Jew, American Jews included, and the destruction of the state of Israel itself.
Would we sit idly by, if Mexico or Canada threatened us in the same way ?
1 – What if three thousand Canadian rockets rained down on Minneapolis last week ? Or St. Louis? Or Albany?
Would we want a President who still thinks he can “negotiate” with these terrorists, before they end these rocket attacks?
2 – What if miles of tunnels were secretly built between Toronto and Chicago in which terrorists would enter the U.S. to kidnap or kill everyone living here ?
Should we call in a “community organizer”? Or would we want a President with the experience and strength of character to do whatever it takes militarily to defend us?
3 – What if we had to spent hours each day in bomb shelters? Would we continue to reduce the size of our armed forces? Would we still allow thousands of undocumented immigrants to cross our borders each week, and enter our country illegally? No way !!
4 – What if Mexican rocket launchers were hidden in churches, schools, and hospitals in Guadalajara? If they didn’t stop targeting our civilian populations, what would we do about it ?
Just let them continue to kill us while we “negotiated” ? I doubt it !
5 – If our “allies” told us to negotiate with these terrorists, even though their rockets were still being fired at us, would it be enough to just send John Kerry to Ottawa to “BEG” them to stop !! Are you kidding ?
Only after the Israeli Defense Forces destroyed the massive tunnel systems and decimated Hamas’s rocket capability, did negotiations finally begin.
Too bad so many lives were lost while Obama tried to “talk” the terrorists into negotiations. The President still refuses to understand that this is not about israel giving up land for a Palestinian State.
Other Arab states could have done this decades ago. Rather it is about religious fanatics trying to kill every Jew (American Jews included !) It’s as simple as that. It’s called a jihad.
How long will these “peace” talk last? Who knows? Negotiating with an enemy who is still calling for your destruction, doesn’t give me much hope.
A more accurate title for President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize should have been an “Attempted, Nobel Peace Prize.”
If the existence and security of Israel is of concern to you, as it should be, elect congressmen, and a president, who believe that Israel has the same right to defend itself as we would have if it was happening to us.
Last week, the White House announced that it halted an Israeli request for Hellfire missiles.
Is there anyone who can still say that Obama is a friend of Israel?
