Readers Write: Paper stoops to tabloid levels on Plandome Hgts.

The Island Now

If, in your undignified depiction (Nov. 8) of Plandome Heights Mayor Ken Riscica, you attempted to create buzz by stealing from the playbook of a tabloid, you have succeeded.

If, however, you really wanted to make an impression, you might have seen fit to juxtapose what is clearly a non-story of seemingly sophomoric defiance, with Ken’s great achievements, notably in the days before, during, and after Hurricane Sandy.

His constant, indefatigable, daily vigilance, personal visitations, steady flow of e-mails, phone calls and letters to all parties, established this volunteer mayor as a hero.

Moreover, his longtime commitment to scouting is well regarded and emblematic of his great sense of community. To win readership, you should be more prepared to balance your First Amendment right to report with a sense of fairness and balance.
