Readers Write: Parking enforcement officer is not doing his job

The Island Now

The Nassau County Police Department has a parking enforcement officer assigned to the former 6th Precinct whose job it is to write parking tickets.

A few weeks ago I saw the officer at the Manhasset Train Station and brought to his attention numerous vehicles in the community that park all day long in timed parking areas along Plandome Road, and other adjoining side streets, even along Northern Boulevard by the car dealerships.

The corner of Park Avenue and Plandome Road by the dry cleaners, Manhasset Drug and the hairdresser.  Those cars are there as early as 7 a.m. and don’t leave until 8 p.m., never once move

I asked him why these cars that park all day just about everyday in violation of posted signs do not get ticketed.

His response shocked me.  He said “I don’t want to do it.”

The same was mentioned about cars parked blocking crosswalks, fire hydrants and being in no stopping zones.

So if it is his job to enforce parking regulations and he doesn’t want to do it, why did he take the job?

The Police Department should be ashamed of themselves for hiring this individual.

Manhasset is plagued with severe parking problems.

No wonder why there is this group of individuals going around taking photos of illegally parked cars and forwarding the information to the heads of departments in the Town of North Hempstead and Nassau County.

I’m originally from Garden City and all rules and regulations concerning parking were strictly enforced.

If a vehicle parked in a 1-hour zone and didn’t move after the hour was up, it was given a parking ticket.

We need this strict enforcement in Manhasset.
