A Williston Park man attempted to kill his younger brother by stabbing him multiple times in their home last Friday night, according to Nassau County Police.

Detectives said Ruben Renderos, 18, of Willis Avenue, Williston Park told his 14-year-old brother that he wanted to kill himself.

But, police said, Ruben Renderos also told his brother he would kill him first so he would not be lonely.

The elder Renderos then picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed his brother multiple times in the back, head, and chest, police said, and then fled the residence on foot.

Police said the wounded brother called his parents who were not home at the time and asked them to call the police. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital and treated for his wounds. Police said he is listed in stable condition.

Police said officers from the Nassau County Police Precinct located Ruben Renderos at 7:50 p.m. on March 14 walking on Jackson Avenue in the vicinity of Chaminade High School in Mineola. Police said the officers arrested him without incident.

Renderos is charged with murder 2nd degree, assault 1st degree, and possession of a dangerous weapon 4th degree.

He was arraigned on Saturday, March 15 at 1st District Court in Hempstead.

A spokesman for the county District Attorney’s office said he was released on his own recognizance to his parents and a stay away order of protection was issued by the judge.
