From the desk of Mayor Paul Ehrbar: Pool season, gazebo concerts start

The Island Now

From the Desk of Mayor Paul Ehrbar

This past weekend the Roger J. Fay Williston Park Pool officially opened for the 2012 summer season. The village staff, along with pool employees, worked extremely hard to ensure another successful opening.

Paul Blake and Anne Buttafuco return as manager and assistant manager. A spectacular season long calendar of events has been put into place.

Although the “early bird special” has come to an end, a membership is an inexpensive option to keep cool. The cost of going to a movie nowadays is close to $ 20 per person for two hours. Bowling is at least $20 per person for two hours of fun. Look around at other activities that are available and none can be found that compare for those prices to 8-10 hours per day each day of the summer at the pool (Rates our posted on our Web site at villageofwillistonpark.org). This past Thursday the gazebo concert season began with the traditional Flag Day concert honoring the senior citizens of Williston Park.

The Senior Committee under the leadership of Barbara Alanga and Trustee Mike Uttaro with assistance from Deputy Mayor Kevin Rynne and Trustee Billy Carr treated the seniors to a hot dog barbecue.

Rae and Tony Caramanica(former Williston Park Village Clerk) were honored for their 50 years of wedded bliss.

The next concert is scheduled for June 28. While food will not be served at this event it promises to be an exciting evening outdoors, spending time with friends and neighbors.

The Neighborhood Watch Committee will be holding their next meeting at the gazebo after the concert. Those not members of Neighborhood Watch are invited to stay for the meeting as local police official(s) are expected to report to the committee. to the concert.

The new garbage schedule has been working fairly well although some residents have not yet mastered recycling. Glass and bottles one week following week papers as each get picked up every other week. Check the schedule on line if a copy of the schedule was not kept.

With schools closing for the summer I’d like to once again to remind all drivers to follow the rules of the road. Slow down, stay off the phone, and stop at the Stop signs. Help protect all in our village from traffic accidents. Safe roads are critical to a peaceful community.
