Readers Write: Pope Francis’ outreach a welcome change

The Island Now

Pope Francis said the Roman Catholic Church has become obsessed with abortion, gay marriage and contraception and he is done talking about it.

Well the winds of change have occurred.

I believe Pope Francis does believe these are important issues but it should not be the main focus of the church. It’s main focus ought to be charity and the healing of the spiritually wounded.

Pope Francis is right on that, we need to bring back those who have left the church.

This cannot happen by passing judgment.

As Jesus said in Matthew chapter 7 verse 1, “Stop judging, that you may not be judged.”

As a Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus, I wholeheartedly applaud Pope Francis for his new approach to revitalize the church. As Pope Francis pointed out the church needs to welcome, not exclude, and show mercy, not condemnation.

The welcome mat is out and all are welcome, now that is a most beautiful thing.
