Readers Write: Quality of Manhasset’s education on the line

The Island Now

Manhasset’s great public schools are an irreplaceable asset, and they need your vote behind them on Tuesday, May 21.

Our schools are nationally ranked, high performing and widely respected, led by a dedicated leadership team that is stable, works well together and is committed to doing the right things for children; they also need your voice behind them too.

Charlie Cardillo and his leadership team strive to ensure that the needs of every child are being met while proposing among the lowest budget increases on Long Island for each of the last five years.  As a team working together, each of us can support this effort by helping the district team and speaking up if you see things that need improvement.  E-mail Charlie at ccardillo@manhasset.k12.ny.us  or the board at boe@manhasset.k12.ny.us.

I am a parent.  I am a taxpayer.  Like you, I do not want to pay higher taxes, but I do place a high value on our schools.  I do believe the district’s five-year demonstrated record of fiscal responsibility with average tax increases of 2.55 percent and per pupil costs at No. 17 in Nassau County (down from No. 1) deserves your support.

If you feel differently, please e-mail me at plandome3@aol.com and educate me why the record of continued excellence and fiscal responsibility does not win your support.

Educate me so I can properly represent you and continue to work to protect the taxpayer and the students.

I feel we must work together to protect this wonderful asset our community shares. I ask you to work with me, Craig Anderson, the members of the board of education and the leadership team to keep our schools beacons of excellence that benefit our students and our community.  This year’s challenge is unprecedented: delivering a 60 percent supermajority to keep opportunities for Manhasset students.

I believe our community can use its votes and its voices to work together to meet these challenges and keep excellence in education intact.

Strong public schools do not just happen. I urge you to join me and vote Yes on May 21.  Let’s use this opportunity to demonstrate our support for Manhasset schools, Manhasset students and for our community!   Our goal – One and Done! We are all in this together.
