Readers Write: Decision to run letter was right one

I herald Steven Blank’s decision to publish the articles by John O’Kelly; that he does cherish the right for all voices being heard.

So they ‘pull’ their advertising!

Money isn’t everything though for some it is. In this case it is a threat with the purpose of quelling a voice being heard.

It does however help create a more inclusive society by not leaving out those unpopular to some.

Believe me, the majority of us do understand well the world in which we live.

Now, to another subject: The LIRR grade crossings in Mineola.

It is clear that most of the traffic on Willis Avenue is thru traffic.

Considering that the Oyster Bay Line as it turns North cuts through the block between 2nd Street and the main line, the only solution is a tunnel beginning at the South edge of the intersection of 1st Street and Willis Avenue, going under 2nd Street, under the curve of the Oyster Bay Line, under the Main Line and back to the surface right before Old Country Road.

There would have to be a sump pump at the bottom of the tunnel draining into a storm drain.

2nd Street must remain unchanged. The Oyster Bay Line crossing would have to remain as is and being that the train does not run that often, it is not a tremendous problem.

There is an entrance to the area occupied by K’ s Auto and Precise Auto Detail next to the west end of the Western Beef parking lot.

Without going into any detail,  the Main Street crossing would have to be closed.

All of the side streets North an South of the Main Line would still be accessible.

There is talk about interference with sewer lines in building an underpass at Main Street.

The tunnel I mentioned on Willis Avenue would hopefully be below any sewer lines. It would be cars only, one lane North and one South.

Most trucks use Roslyn Road anyway.

The parking lanes between 1st and 2nd Streets would become traffic lanes. The two center lanes for the tunnel.

Mineola Village would grieve the loss of some parking meters. Not the loss of the spaces but that of lost pocket change.

One wonders who gets to count all of those ‘loose’ unaccounted for quarters.

Anyone know any good sewer lines?

I guess a sewer could be sued if it stinks and a sewer could be sued if the stitching is crooked.

A sower could be sued if the seeds did not grow that the sower did sow. This has nothing to do with a female pig.

This is beginning to sour. So be it.

I am able to sympathize with immigrants and others learning our English with the ‘free for all’ vowels.

So many words have to be learned individually.

Then there is the ‘English’ on our English. I imagine that other languages have plenty of that too.

I almost forgot that Mineola is planning to spend $36,000 to ‘do a study’ about the grade crossings. I consider that I may be way ahead of them.

Where is my $36,000? That is a big piece of change.
