Readers Write: Lots near LIRR would be no improvement

The Island Now

I consider the fact that I never do, never have and never will ride the LIRR makes possible an amount of objectivity in the matter.

At the moment, Mineola wants more and more parking lots near the train station.

As it is, the ones that exist occupy a lot of land area.

This village does not want to see that if there was a system of shuttle busses operating six days per week, it would be much more convenient for travelers to be picked up and dropped off right on the station platforms.

There would be so much less traffic congestion and the cost without parking fees, etc. would be so much less.

Some time would be required in practise to develop the best routes and timing to be most effective.

A village commuter card could be developed that would charge directly into a credit card. Shoppers and others also might find this system better.

Somehow this village is blind to innovation.

It is continuing to be said how the third rail will benefit the economy of L.I.

Words alone are cheap and nothing has ever been said about how it would actually accomplish this: just more propaganda.

L.I. has become overdeveloped already and there has for some time been evidence that the water supply is overtaxed. Once it is ruined, it is gone.

Another example of how greed is blind.

As I have said before, just keep the tracks and switching in perfect condition.

It continues to be said that the third track project would have minimal effect on commuters. Who are they kidding?

It would be horrendous beyond comprehension.
