Readers Write: Low-energy prez takes a vacation

The Island Now

Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.  Where is Anthony Scaramucci today?

And where are the local residents who basked in his reflected glory?

As for the rest of us, we can only say “good riddance.”

Meanwhile, the occupant of the Oval Office, perhaps exhausted from all his tweeting, is away on a 17-day vacation.

Or was it all that golfing while supposedly performing his official duties in the White House and Mar-a-Lago that exhausted him?

Wasn’t it Donald Trump who complained so often about Barack Obama’s work ethic?

But, it’s not just the lies about President Obama.

Didn’t Trump say, “I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done?”  That, “I would not be a president who took vacations.  I would not be a president that takes time off.”

Maybe Trump’s absence from Washington will permit members of Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, interested in improving our nation’s health care the opportunity to fix the Affordable Care Act that Trump was unable to repeal.

Maybe bipartisanship can rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes of the failed assault on the ACA?

But, sadly, there’s always the tweets.
