Readers Write: My gratitude for President Trump continues

The Island Now

In January 2019, the Roslyn Times published a letter of mine that expressed my gratitude to Donald Trump for being our president. I gave 27 reasons. Here are 21 more.

  • Trump intends to remove our troops from Syria. One sticking point is that the Kurds, who fought as our allies, are persecuted by the Turks. There is a fear that if we were to totally withdraw, the Turks would proceed to annihilate the Kurds. Trump publicly made it clear to President Erdogan that he would destroy the Turkish economy if the Kurds were attacked.
  • During the government shutdown, Trump grounded Nancy Pelosi from using military aircraft to travel. He demanded Pelosi stay at her government post just as Trump had been doing.
  • Partial repeal of the warped Dodd-Frank bill. Passed in response to the 2008 financial crisis, this bill was supposed to make the financial system more stable. While the small and mid-sized local banks had nothing to do with the crisis, they were squashed by this legislation. The large, money center banks that were over-leveraged during the crisis became even more dominant after the legislation. This bill was so bad that 17 Democratic senators voted with the Republican majority to amend it.
  • I attended a lecture by Harvey Kushner, a world-renowned cybersecurity expert. Obama ended cybersecurity cooperation with Poland, which was our intelligence beachhead to Russia. Russia and China are the biggest violators of computer network security. Trump has restored the cooperation.
  • Invited the Covington high school kids to the White House after they were aggressively confronted by Black Hebrews and a native American. They were just innocently waiting for a bus.
  • Generously refused to take his presidential salary.
  • According to NBC news, Trump’s fortune has dropped by about $1 billion since he became president. Forbes Magazine confirmed it. Yet Trump continues on — more for our benefit than his.
  • Declared a National Health Emergency regarding opioid addiction, which claimed an unbelievable 70,000 American lives last year. He made Chinese-made Fentanyl part of the trade negotiations.
  • Trump met with Angel parents. These are parents who had family members murdered by illegal immigrants. Pelosi reportedly declined to meet with them.
  • While the numbers are controversial, illegal aliens are estimated to murder or kill a couple of thousand Americans a year. Some cases are outright murder. They also have a disproportionately higher vehicular homicide rate. Trump is the only politician to speak to this carnage.
  • Josh Bernstein cited the fact that 85 individuals have been fired, retired, or have resigned from the Dept. of Justice, the FBI, or the CIA. Some names are well known. These individuals were trying to undermine the Trump presidency from the inside.
  • David Malpass was appointed to the World Bank. He is a very capable free market economist.
  • Trump ordered a raid on Islamberg, NY. This is a self-segregated, Muslim-only colony that was found to have violated federal law with a huge weapon cache and bomb-making materials.
  • Of dozens of economic indicators, the most important one is productivity. That indicator will determine if your standard of living is rising. Under Obama, productivity actually went negative for the first time. It is now rising under Trump due to regulatory relief. Small businesses are the largest drivers of productivity increases. Trump’s tax reform and regulation reduction benefit these small companies the most.
  • In California, our progressive superiors insisted on building a 560-mile-long, bullet train despite the outrage when the project was originally introduced. The critics said the project was an economic boondoggle. The train is 14 years behind schedule, double the original cost projection, and in desperation, had its length reduced to 160 miles. Under Trump, the Dept. of Transportation will not supply any new grants. It also intends to claw back $2.5 billion of federal funds due to the fact that California did not materially comply with the terms of the original reward.
  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau harassed payday lenders during the Obama administration. Their dictatorial intention was designed to eliminate the industry. Low- income people need this alternative because they cannot get bank credit. Under Trump’s leadership, the most onerous of regulations damaging the industry are being rescinded.
  • Forbade the return of the woman who left the United States and subsequently swore an oath to ISIS.
  • Obama’s 2012 Jobs Act allowed “emerging growth companies” with less than $1 billion in revenue to file for SEC registration confidentiality. This was a good start. Trump now expanded it to companies of all sizes.
  • His tax reform bill would allow for repatriation of corporate cash sitting in overseas banks. This could amount to $2 trillion. By allowing a special, one-time low rate, these funds can go to finance the expansion and creation of business enterprises.
  • Supported the “Born Alive” bill, which was unfortunately defeated by the Senate, that would insist that children who survive an abortion be treated medically just as any other newborn child. It took 60 votes to pass it but, with only three exceptions, all the Democrats voted against it. Now the child can be left on the table to die. What was that about Schumer telling us that he wants to protect the “most vulnerable?”
  • A recent youtube video showed a violent, unprovoked attack on a Trump supporter at the University of California at Berkeley. Trump has stated his intention to withhold federal funds from any university that does not show respect for free speech.

More to come.
